Privacy Policy

Your data, your call.

We built RoadWave because the alternatives leak everywhere. Here's exactly what we do β€” and don't do β€” with your information.

Last updated: April 2026

Who we are

The RoadWave service is operated by RoadWave USA LLC(referred to in this Policy as β€œRoadWave,” β€œwe,” or β€œus”). RoadWave USA LLC is the data controller responsible for the personal information described below.

The short version

We collect the minimum we need to make a wave work. We never sell your data. We never share your exact location with other campers. You can ask us to delete your account and everything tied to it at any time β€” see β€œDeleting your data” below.

What we collect

When you use RoadWave, we collect:

  • Your email address β€” used to sign you in and send confirmations.
  • Your username and display name β€” what other campers see when you appear in a checked-in camper list.
  • Your travel style and interests β€” used to surface compatible neighbors.
  • Your check-in β€” the campground you scanned into and when. Not your GPS.
  • Your wave history β€” who you waved at, who waved back, when.
  • Optional profile fields β€” rig type, hometown, years RVing, pet info, a personal note. Each one has its own share toggle.

How we use it

Strictly to make the app work. We surface you to other campers at your campground when your privacy mode allows it, match mutual waves, remember Past Waves so you can find someone again next season, and send you the occasional product email you can opt out of with one click.

We do not run ads. We do not sell to data brokers. We do not feed your information into any model training pipeline.

What we never share

  • Your exact site number. Ever. Other campers see that you are at the same campground β€” never which loop or pad.
  • Your real name, unless you put it in your display name yourself.
  • Your email address.
  • Anything you have toggled off in your sharing settings.
  • Your data with advertisers, brokers, or third-party trackers.

Privacy modes

You always have four modes available, and you can switch in one tap:

  • Visible β€” you appear in checked-in camper lists at your campground.
  • Quiet β€” you are hidden from camper lists, but you can still wave first.
  • Invisible β€” you are completely hidden from other campers.
  • Campground Updates Only β€” you can see official campground updates and meetup prompts without appearing to other campers, sending waves, or opening private hellos.

How long we keep it

Check-ins automatically expire 24 hours after you scan in. Mutual waves and crossed-path history are retained while your account remains active so RoadWave can remember people you connected with. Unmatched wave attempts are not shown to the other person and are not retained longer than needed to operate the feature, prevent abuse, and maintain system integrity. Wave and crossed-path records are deleted when you delete your account, except for limited trust, safety, legal, or compliance records described in this policy.

Deleting your data

To delete your RoadWave account and data, email hello@getroadwave.com from the email address tied to your account and request deletion. We'll confirm the request and delete your account data within 7 business days. If you're signed in, you can also delete your account immediately from inside the app using the in-app account deletion page.

Cookies and analytics

We use first-party cookies to keep you signed in, and Vercel Analytics to count page views in aggregate. That's it. No third-party tracking pixels, no cross-site trackers.

Adults only β€” 18+

RoadWave is 18+ only. We do not knowingly collect or process personal information from anyone under 18 years of age. Accounts found to belong to a minor are removed and any data tied to them is deleted. If you believe a minor has created an account, email us and we'll remove it.

Changes to this policy

If we make a meaningful change, we'll email everyone with an account before it takes effect. The minor edits β€” fixing a typo, clarifying a sentence β€” we'll just update the date at the top.
